Welcome to Costa Rica
A warm and sunny welcome to Costa Rica! Your flight disembarks at Juan Santamaría International Airport. After passing through immigration and customs, you will meet one of our local representatives and brought to your hotel. At your hotel you will receive a welcome package to set you up for the excitement ahead.
Discover the Amazonas of Costa Rica
Facing the Caribbean Sea and the Tortuguero River, Tortuguero is one of Costa Rica’s main treasures. Its name meaning “place of turtles” is renowned for its yearly arrival of 4 different turtle species that nest on its beaches. To get to your destination hotel we will provide a bus transfer from San José to one of the important ports of the canals. Once at the canals you may board a small motor boat that will traverse the canals to your chosen hotel.
How many animals can you spot?
Through an infinite network of river canals and mangroves, you will experience a truly unique contact with nature. Although remote, there is rich, stunning, unspoiled nature as well as fauna. Hiking and a boat trip is included. On turtle nesting season (July to October), there is an optional tour at night available upon request at the hotel.
Observe Costa Rica's iconic volcano
The Arenal Volcano located in La Fortuna is the most iconic volcano in Costa Rica. It is a perfectly coned shaped volcano that was the most active volcano up until 2010. During your hike, an experienced naturalist guide will point out interesting plants and wildlife in the vibrant primary and secondary rainforest of the El Silencio Nature Reserve that skirts the Arenal Volcano National Park. You’ll then arrive to the observation point of the Arenal Volcano, a perfect vantage point to take remarkable photos as the sun sets behind the Arenal Volcano. After your hike you will be going to the bespoken Tabacón Hot Springs, a truly luxurious, world renowned resort. The natural hot spring resort features a hot river that flows through a series of pools and tributaries.
On this hike along the trails of Arenal National Park we will enter into the tropical forest and areas which were once devastated by the fury of the volcano. During the hike, it is possible to see a great variety the area’s characteristic flora and fauna, as well as sites of interest like the impact craters and on to the Lava slides of 1992, a large accumulation of solidified volcanic material ejected from the crater of this might colossus, during the very active period of that year. On clear days, you will enjoy incredible views of the impressive Arenal Volcano, Arenal Lake, the Tilarán mountain range, and Cerro Chato.
As you head toward your destination, the Monteverde Cloud Forest Reserve, feel the climate change as a cool breeze takes over from the humidity. Your journey takes you high up into the cloud forest, an area with generally less rain. This forest, with a higher altitude and more humidity creates a somewhat surreal atmosphere as clouds take over the forest. Enjoy, as you witness one of the most exceptional wildlife sanctuaries in the New World Tropics.
Today you are going to discover the cloud forest in a very special way – you will start with the walkways tour, which is a combination of trails and seven bridges where you will have the opportunity to explore all the levels of the cloud forest, starting from the ground and getting to the top of the great trees. Once you are on them you will be able to admire the great diversity of flora and fauna typically found in the tropical rain forest and also have the opportunity to see many different bird and plant species. A hike on the Monteverde hanging bridges will be a memorable experience!
