Bemvindo a Portugal!
Welcome to Porto, the second-largest city in Portugal. Depending on your mode of travel, your guide will expect you at the airport or the train station. From here, you are transferred to the charming town of Amarante. Check into your hotel, the fantastic chateaux hotel Casa da Calçada. Amarante has a long history, dating back to the 4th century BC. The town is located in the rich agricultural lands of the Minho region, where the grapes for the "vinho verde" - the green wine, a local specialty - grow. Take a relaxing stroll through town down to the Tâmega river that runs through the middle of it. Walk across the Ponte São Gonçalo bridge and sit down in one of the beautiful water-front cafes. In the evening, enjoy a wonderful gourmet dinner at the well-reputed Michelin Star restaurant at your hotel.
Visit Braga and Guimaraes, the Pearls of the North
Wake up to a delicious breakfast at your hotel. Then your driver will be expecting you and you leave for a day trip to the "Pearls of the North": the towns of Braga and Guimaraes. Guimaraes was the first capital of the kingdom of Portugal. Visit the historic center, the palace of Duques de Bragança, the Toural Square and the cathedral. Then continue to Braga, where you see the impressive Sameiro Sanctuary and the famous Church of Bom Jesus.
From Braga, your guide will take you to Barcelos, a picturesque town boasting a beautiful historic center and an informative archaeological museum. In the afternoon, return to Amarante and enjoy the remainder of the day at leisure.
Experience the Beautiful Douro Valley
Today it's time for a change of scenery. After breakfast, depart from Amarante and travel to the Douro Valley. Visit the town of Douro, which was described as a "Golden Geological Poem" by poet Miguel Torga. Move on to Regua, where you'll enjoy a scenic river cruise. As you float along the river, marvel at the vineyards that span all across the hills of the valley. The vinyards set the stage for the remainder of the day. You arrive at your hotel, Portugal's first wine hotel. It is located in a renovated 19th-century manor house. Its rooms offer panoramic views across the river and the vineyards. Experience the authentic spirit of life in the Douro Valley. Take walks across the hotel's vast vineyards, or explore the fruit orchards and have a stop at the wine bar.
Enjoy a Glass of Wine and Relax
Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the hotel. Today is all yours. Would you like to take a fruit picking excursion or take a hike traversing the small villages of the area? Or maybe you feel like simply staying at the hotel and relaxing. The vineyards are the perfect place for taking time to read a good book, to just let the soul wander or simply to do nothing. In the evening, you could go for a sunset picknick, or how about a glass of exquisite wine at the bar?
Explore Gorgeous Porto
Say goodbye to the valley and its vineyards today and return to Porto. Spend the day exploring the city on an exciting city tour. Visit the beautiful area of Boavista, the St. Francis Church, the Mouzinho da Silveira street and the cathedral. Make a stop for a tasting of the world famous port wine in Vilanova da Gaia.
In the afternoon you will depart for a "6 bridges" cruise along the river and get to know the old town of Porto from the water. Admire the wonderful architecture of the bridges spanning the river, as well as the many typical Porto houses that are located along the shore.
Discover Porto at Your Own Pace
