Wonders of the world
We know you are just eagerly awaiting to start your tour of Egypt and today you do just that. Get ready for the enigmatic charm of Pharaonic Egypt during today's visit of the famous Giza Plateau with its legendary Great Pyramids of Cheops, Chephren and Mykerinus. Being the only remaining one of the seven wonders of the ancient world and for almost 4.000 years having been the tallest man-made structure in the world, the Pyramids are truly a one-of-a kind sight for you to stand in front of in awe over the accomplishments of this ancient civilization. A visit to Egypt wouldn't be complete without a visit of the Plateau, as it hosts not only the Pyramids, but also the fantastic Great Sphinx statue, staring mysteriously at you beside the famous Valley Temple. You must have worked up an appetite being constantly impressed by those architectural miracles, so enjoy a delicious lunch at a local restaurant to recharge. Continue your journey through the Pharaonic cultures of Egpyt at the Egyptian Museum and stand face to face with many of the rulers of this ancient civilization, including legendary child king Tutankhamen.
After this high dose of pure ancient Egypt, it is time to add something else to your day. Next up today is Coptic Cairo with the famous Hanging Church, known for having its nave being suspended ("hanging") over a passage. Biblical times will come to live as you observe the many impressive christian designs decorating the church. You will also pay a visit to Ben Ezra Synagogue, where, as legend has it, baby Moses was found. Last stop of the day will then be Islamic Cairo, bringing you back from the historical sites in the center of Old Cairo to the modern side of Cairo in a heartbeat, when setting foot into Cairo's old bazaar Khan El Khalili, offering you plenty of opportunities to buy souvenirs, haggle and feel the pulse of authentic Cairo.
The temples of Luxor
It is time to leave Cairo behind for now and move on to discover more of Egypt's charm, as it has so much more to offer. After breakfast at your hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your Egyptair flight to Luxor. Say hello to your luxurious home for the next few days afterwards, when embarking onto your stylish Nile river cruise ship. Allow the skilled staff aboard to show off their skills right away during a tasty lunch. Full of energy, you are ready to visit what many call the world's greatest open air museum, the terrific Karnak and Luxor temples. Situated right in the middle of the city of Luxor, the vast area is home to many impressive temples, obelisks and chapels, giving you first hand insights into ancient times. If you wear the proper hat, you might just feel a spark of Indiana Jones come to life inside you. When you successfully explored every nook and cranny of this historical site, it is time to head back to your comfortable cruise ship for dinner.
The spirit of Pharaos
Bring your best manners today, because you will meet some royalty today! After breakfast on your Nile cruise ship, you take an excursion to the royal cementary for 62 Pharaos on the west bank of Luxor. As a metropolis of ancient Egypt, this city of palaces is home to the amazing Valley of the Kings and their elaborately decorated tombs. Many royal figures of Egypt's New Kingdom lay buried here, the city having been the principal burial site of royal figures for five centuries. One of the most prominent structures is most definitely the mortuary temple of Queen Hatshepsut, built in the 15th century BCE and testimony to one of the world's first and most impressive female rulers. The valley is also home to the two massive testimonial stone statues towering into the sky, known as the Colossi of Memnon. Your head might be spinning by now and you can let your impressions settle after lunch back on the boat as your cruise will take you leisurely down the beautiful Nile river scenery towards Edfu. Relax and simply enjoy the time aboard your delightful cruise as you head south.
Cruising down the Nile through time
Continue your journey through time sailing down the Nile in style when visiting the Ptolemaic Temple at Edfu. This temple complex is one of the best-preserved temples in Egypt and will surely entice you immediately. Dedicated to falcon god Horus, it is an important source to learn about the culture and language of its time and a definite highlight of your tour through the wonders of Egyptian culture. Your cruise will sail you to the next fascinating sight of the day at Kom Ombo, the unique temple of Sobek. Unique and highly unusual about this complex is the fact that it is not only dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek, but serves as a double temple dedicating its northern half to Horus in perfect symetry to the southern half of Sobek. After these fascinating temple outings your ship will bring you further south towards Aswan as you enjoy dinner aboard.
Goddesses and dams and quarries
Welcome to Aswan, the final stop of your cruise along the Nile through beautiful Egypt. This most southern stop of the trip has plenty of interesting corners. One of them would be the impressive High Dam, key piece to Egypt's industrialization since the 1960s, as it is able to control previously harmful floods of the Nile. Victim to those floods was the island of Philae, home to an ancient temple devoted to goddesses Isis and Hathor, until the temple complex was finally moved to a nearby island in order to preserve it and make it yet another fascinating sight for you to visit. Last but not least on the list of things to see in Aswan is the source for many of Egypt's great monuments, the Aswan stone quarries. Here you will find the largest known obelisk, the despite or just because of its size Unfinished Obelisk. Return then to your swimming hotel for one last night aboard the cruise ship.
So we meet again, enchanting Cairo
In the morning it is time to say goodbye to your favorite Nile cruise ship and disembark, heading to the Aswan airport. Via a quick flight with Egyptair you will soon have arrived back in Cairo, where you will be met at the airport to be taken to the hotel. There are too many intriguing corners in Cairo to see them all, but today you can do your best to see just the ones you like with the day at your free disposal.
