First day in Sri Lanka! Airport to Negombo
Begin your twelve day journey through the natural and cultural wonder that is Sri Lanka as you step off the plane and are welcomed by a representative of our local agency. After a short meet and greet, you will be taken directly to your hotel in Negombo at the Negombo Beach Hotel. Here you will spend the night and have the opportunity to ease into your vacation. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy relaxing on the sunny and serene Negombo Beach.

Wake up to a delicious and fresh breakfast at Negombo Beach Hotel and prepare yourself for a city tour around Negombo. Lovingly called the 'little Rome' due to its high population of Catholic residents, the city is home to numerous catholic churches. Most notable is the St. Mary's Catheral which was built by the Portuguese over 140 years ago. You will have the opportunity to explore this church's unique architecture and hand-painted ceilings. Adding to Negombo's international flair, is the hard to miss Dutch influence throughout the city.
In your walk around the city, you must visit the fish market, where you can experience the real action of auctioning and buying fresh catches of the day. Finish your day of by indulging in a unique seafood meal prepared especially for you. You will overnight at Negombo Beach Hotel.
An Elephants Paradise!
Leave the beach to the Cultural Triangle! On your way you will stop of at the Pinnwala Elephant Orphanage, home to 83 elephants. These orphaned elephants are taken care of by their human foster parents. You will join them during their feeding hours and participate in the fun by offering adult species juicy fruits and leaves, while the babies can be watched gulping down milk offered to them. Follow them down to the river as they head down to play and bathe in the water. Check into your new hotel in the Cultural Triangle that evening and spend the night relaxing, and awaiting new and exciting things.
Central Sri Lanka's Beauty and Hospitality
In the morning you will tour the village Habarana and immerse yourself in the beautiful landscape at the higher vantage point of central Sri Lanka. Experience the local hospitality as you are welcomed by a family and join them for a cup of tea with some sweet meats to nibble on. Go from there on a hike across the village through paddy fields along lake shores. In the evening, return to your hotel in the Cultural Triangle for a well-deserved rest.
History and Culture in a Medieval City
Breakfast in in your hotel and the head off to Polonnaruwa, the medieval capital of Sri Lanka after the fall of Anuradhapura. This mysterious city and its ruins speak of its glorious days, with majestic stupas and dagobas spread throughout the city for you to experience and explore. The ruins of the grand palaces and remaining statues are displays of one of the most successful epochs of the island. The statues Gal Viharaya are a magnificent creation, as well as the seated, standing and recumbent statues of Lord Buddha carved from stone.
Take an excursion to Sigirya and climb the Rock Fortress at Sigiriya, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by King Kasyapa. This king committed patricide and out of stone this palace was created as a military fort against his brother.

Midpoint Highlight in Dambulla Rock Cave Temple
To highlight the midpoint of your trip, in the morning you will visit the Dambulla Rock Cave Temple, another UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is the largest cave temple in the country and was constructed by King Walagambahu as a token of gratitude for his time in hiding within these caves from foreign invaders. The exquisite statues and paintings of Lord Buddha have made this a World Heritage Site.
In the afternoon you will leave for Kandy and visit a spice Garden at Matale en route. Witness how endemic and indigenous spices are grown and carefully processed to be used for culinary and medicinal purposes.
In the evening enjoy a cultural performance that displays the beauty of Sri Lankan culture through dance and performance. You will overnight in Kandy.
Explore Kandy and the Temple of the Tooth Relic
The morning is yours to spend in lovely Kandy, a city resting on Kandy Lake and surrounded by biodiverse mountains. Later in the day you will visit Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most venerated Buddhist sites on the island. Following the temple your the city and its colorful markets. Make a stop at the gem lapidary, where you will witness how rough stones are cut, polished, and produced into a valuable gem. The evening is yours to relax in your hotel in Kandy.
Looking for more adventure? You can also choose to visit the Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya as an optional tour.
