Welcome at the beach!
After a warm welcome at Bandaranaike International Airport, we will bring you to your hotel. After your arrival in Negombo, you can spend the rest of the day relaxing at the beach. This is Sri Lanka!
City tour & sea food feast
After a delicious breakfast at the hotel, you can discover Negombo on a city tour. Lovingly called "Little Rome" due to the high population of Catholics, the city is dotted with Catholic churches. St. Mary’s cathedral stands out with its painted ceilings.
The Dutch influence is hard to miss in the little town of Negombo. The Hamilton Canal is snaking through the town to the Old Dutch Fort. Visit the fish market, one of the liveliest places in Negombo. Return to your hotel to indulge yourself in sea food at a sea food feast, exclusively prepared for you.
Invitation from the Elephant Orphanage
Leave the beach to the Cultural Triangle. En route you will visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage. Home to over 83 jumbos, the orphaned elephants are taken care of by their human foster parents. Join them during their feeding hours, where the little babies will gulp down their milk. Follow them down to the river as they make their way for two hours of bathing. Your trip ends in Negombo, where you will spend a peaceful night.
Visit the Locals
In the morning, make a village tour of Habarana to see the beautiful landscape around you from a higher spot. A local family will welcome you and invite you for a cup of tea with sweet meats. Go on a hike across the village through rice fields and along the lake shores. Return to the hotel in the Cultural Triangle in the evening for a well-deserved rest.
Fascinating World Heritage Sites
Today you will leave for Polonnaruwa, medieval capital of Sri Lanka. Majestic stupas, dagobas, ruins of the grand palaces and remaining statues are witnesses of the island's glorious days.
The next World Heritage Site on your way will be the Rock Fortress at Sigiriya. The former king Kassapa I used this sight as a palace and military fort against his brother. In the evening you will return to your hotel in Habarana.
Explore Cave Temple & Spice Gardens
Visit the Dambulla Rock Cave temple in the morning. It is the largest cave temple in the country, constructed by King Walagambahu as a token of gratitude for the time he spent hiding from foreign invaders. The exquisite statues and paintings of Buddha have made this temple a UNESCO World Heritage site.
After this tour you will visit a spice garden in Matale. Witness how spices are grown and carefully processed, before you leave for Kandy. You will spend the evening watching a cultural performance with traditional dancers.
The Gems of Sri Lanka
Spend the morning at leisure. In the afternoon you will visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic, one of the most venerated Buddhist sites on the island.
Afterwards you can look forward to a city tour of Kandy. Visit the colorful local market and wander around the streets of the city. Make a stop at the gem lapidary, where you can watch how the rough stones are cut and polished.
Optional: Make a tour through the Royal Botanical Garden in Peradeniya. The garden boasts a colourful collection of orchids.
Walk Alongside Tea Plantations
Today you will visit Nuwara Eliya, the hill country carpeted in green tea plantations. Enjoy your walk through these fascinating Ceylon tea fields. In the evening you can try a glass of this complimentary high tea at the hotel.
Enjoy as You Desire
Spend the day as you like or ask your tour guide for advice. Maybe you have the opportunity to spend time with locals in Nuwara Eliya. Or how about a walk to the Lover's Leap waterfall?
Next stop: Yala National Park. You will go on a jeep safari to see the majestic creatures of the wild. Yala is home to the largest population of leopards. The elusive big cat is often seen crossing roads in front of jeeps and having siestas on a tree bough. Other creatures such as sloth bears, elephants, monitor lizards, wild buffaloes and spotted deer are common sights during a game drive. Return to your hotel at Yala in the evening and spend a relaxing night.
Relax at the beach
Look forward to a journey to the South coast for sun, sea and sand. Make a city tour of Galle and discover the legacy of the Dutch era. Wander along the Dutch fort in the evening under fading sunlight. Enjoy the night at your beach hotel.
Optional: You could also discover this beautiful place on a bike tour.
