The Journey Begins
Welcome to Central America! 17 amazing days are ahead of you. Your journey starts in Managua, the capital of Nicaragua, where you will visit the National Museum, the historic district and the cathedral. After lunch, the next stop is already calling: Granada! The colonial city of Granada is one of the most important colonial cities in Central America. Founded in 1524, it is the oldest city in the Americas and is still a real colonial gem.
Let yourself be lulled by the history and folklore of the place as you walk through the cobbled streets and gaze at the colorful buildings. Truly amazing!
Discover Granada on a Guided Walking Tour
In the morning, your English speaking guide will meet you for a discovery walk of Granada. As you walk through the city and look at all the different buildings, your guide will tell you all the stories that come along with these impressive historic buildings. Visit the Cathedral, the church of La Merced and the church of Xalteva, which was originally the center of the city of Granada. Then pass through the central market and its colored stalls. What about some local lunch? In the afternoon continue the discovery before you embark on a boat to discover the Archipelago de las isletas, a set of islands off the coast of Granada. Enjoy excellent views of the volcano Mombacho (and spot some animals in their habitat!).
Fancy a Refreshing Morning Hike at a Volcano?
Take advantage of the morning feshness to go hiking over the flank of the Mombacho volcano. Many paths of various difficulties start from the entrance. So, do not worry if you are not the best hiker and pick a trail according to your level.
Enjoy a free afternoon at the Laguna de Apoyo. The area offers many activities to disvover this pristine landscape: you can choose between walking, swimming, kayaking or sailing. Of course, you can also simply relax and rest in this enchanting setting.
Bienvenido a Costa Rica!
Early in the morning, you will drive to the Costa Rica border to cross countries. Once you are on the other side, head south to Rincon de la Vieja, where you will spend the night.
Rincon de la Vieja and its volcano are one of the most active geothermical areas of Costa Rica . Observe gas and smokes coming out of the volcano and enjoy the hotsprings!
Another Day in Rincon De La Vieja
One day is not enough to explore enough of the region of Rincon de la Vieja - It has so much to offer!
Explore one or several of the three areas of the Rincon de la Vieja Park (the Cangreja, las Pailas and Santa Maria). Make sure to spot the massive volcano, after which the park was called. You can do this best during hikes in the las Pailas sector or Santa Maria. You will most likely come across capuchins, howler monkeys and spider monkeys, anteaters, sloths and over 300 species of birds. The park was established in 1973 and possesses a large amount of orchids or the "Guaria morada" (Guarianthe skinneri) which is the local flower.
En route to Arenal Volcano
Today, you will head for La Fortuna and the majestic Arenal Volcano (1635 meters). Along the way, it is possible to stop a Las Pumas de Cañas Rescue Center, whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate and ensure good conditions for endangered wildlife in Costa Rica. Also, the aim is to encourage society's respect and appreciation for wildlife. Reach the Laguna Arenal, perfect for practicing some Windsurfing, if you like. In the late afternoon, treat yourself to some well-deserved relaxation time in the spa resort of Ecotermales in an intimate setting. The warm waters of "Eco Spa" come directly from the hot springs of the Arenal volcano, without ever coming into contact with the magma. This exceptional site is preserved from mass tourism, which makes it a very peaceful place.
Climb the Arenal Volcano
This day can be categorized under the theme: Guaranteed thrill in total safety. You will start walking on a series of hanging bridges (5 in total, from 20 to 37m high) above the canopy, for a very special point of view on the rainforest! Then, take a cable car to observe the flora and fauna without much effort. You will end the activity by a special adrenaline-pumping experience: exploring the top of the trees sliding from one platform to another by a cable. This is a high wire course suspended at the top of the trees composed of a 3 km circuit. End the day by going to a thermal resort, visit the Arenal Volcano National Park or watch the lava in action - the choice is yours!
Ecosystem Lesson in the Danaus Park
Today, you will visit the Danaus centre which is dedicated to the protection of the secondary forest and researching tropical ecosystems. You will walk the centre's paths, watch the colorful butterflies and discover the botanical gardens. Drive to Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui, an authentic rural area surrounded by rainforest, shelter of tapirs, sloths, coatis and various types of monkeys. Later, you will arrive at your hotel.
In the evening, a special activity awaits you: a nightwalk. Explore the tropical forest in the dark, when most of the animals will appear. With an expert guide, you will encounter numerous insects, frogs, some nocturnal mammals and maybe snakes and learn more about their lives. You will be captivated by the unique atmosphere and the beauty of the nightly forest melody.
A boatride to the Turtle Beach
After a strengthening breakfast in your lodge, the transfer to your next destination is waiting for you. In La Pavona you will board a motorised boat that guides you through tropical fauna and flora until you arrive at your lodge for this night. In the afternoon, you visit the Caribbean village Tortuguero, famous for one of the cutest animals that exist: turtles! Spend the night at Turtle Beach Lodge.
Pure Wildlife in the Jungles of Costa Rica
In the morning, you will explore the stunning Tortuguero channels by boat. This Costarican Amazonia is made of water channels and lagoons weaving in the middle of an impressive jungle. In a journey through this exclusive and outstanding water channels and swamps at the heart of the jungle, you will be able to see, with the help of your guide, crocodiles, caimans, toucans, turtles, shouting monkeys, parrots, lazys, iguanas, multicolored birds... The afternoon is at leisure. Take advantage of it to discover the lodge's walking paths.
Next Stop: Puerto Viejo De Talamanca
In the morning, you will leave the lodge by boat and arrive at La Pavona. After a short drive to Guapiles, you will have lunch there at a charming restaurant. Continue the trip by road to the South Caraibe Road, via Guapiles. You can stop on the way in Limón capital of the similarly named province. The very busy port of Moín regularly hosts cruise ships and is the place where the bananas are shipped to Europe. Arrival at the hotel in the surroundings of Puerto Viejo de Talamanca, a colourful village between mountains and sea. The painted wooden houses are absolutely charming.

Today, have some free time to explore the area as you wish. The choice of activities is very broad: lounging, swimming, hiking in private or public reserves (Cahuita, Gandoca Manzanillo), observing local wildlife in the parks or in shelters (Las Pumas Rescue Center), practicing sports (surf, horseback riding, snorkeling, scuba-diving) to just name a few. You can as well spend a day with the local Bribri community and share their unique traditions. Or, you do some wildlife watching and discover leatherback turtles, dolphins, birds and sloths in their natural habitat. One thing is for sure: you won't get bored here!
Transfer to Beautiful Bocas del Toro
Today, you will travel from Puerto Viejo to one of the most beautiful places in the world: Bocas del Toro. On the way, you will stop at the Panamanian border, and at Almirante where you will take a boat to Bocas Town.
Caribbean Feelings in Bocas Del Toro
Make sure to enjoy every second of this day. Relax and dip your feet into the waters of the Carribean seas, enjoy the Afro Caribbean atmosphere of Bocas, explore Bastimentos National Marine Park, swim with starfish, go on a dolphin watching excursion, look for the famous red frogs, or meet with the Ngobe Bugle Indians... the list is sheer endless. Paradise!

City Tour in Panama City!
In the morning, your driver will pick you up for a guided city tour of Panama City. The first stop of the day will be in Panama La Vieja, first capital of the country before it was destroyed by the famous pirate Henry Morgan. Then, we will head to the must-see Panama Canal and the Miraflores Locks. The visitor center offers a view on transiting vessels of all sorts (container ships, cruise ships, or tiny yachts). It explains the history of the canal and how the locks work. End the day with a tour in the Casco Antiguo. This bohemian center of Panama City will make you travel back in time to the historical past of the country. Take a walk through the narrow streets bordered with colorful buildings leading to the Plaza de Francia. Discover the Art-Deco architecture, the cathedral and visit the Panama Canal Museum.
Bye Bye Central America!
With many new experiences, memories and encounters with wild animals, this journey will come to an end. You will be tranferred to the international airport for your flight home. If you feel like coming back one day, do so, there is still so much to discover in this beautiful part of the world.
