Welcome to Granada!
Welcome! Catch a high-speed train from Madrid to Granada. Pick up your car rental at the Granada Train Station.
The region of mountain villages known as Las Alpujarras clings to the southern flanks of the Sierra Nevada, cloven by deep, sheltered valleys and gorges, which run down to the Mediterranean. The Alpujarra, as it is popularly known, in the singular, is famous throughout Spain because of its unique mini-ecology.
This is ideal hiking terrain for adventurous travelers. Drive around the white villages in Sierra Nevada. Later, check in at La Almunia Del Valle.
Go Trekking in the Sierra Nevada
The Sierra Nevada and surrounding area in the southern Spanish region of Andalucía offers beautiful, often breathtaking scenery, and a myriad of options for hiking and other outdoor pursuits.
In addition to the National Park itself, there are vast areas of unspoiled countryside to explore, as well as scenic white villages, and the historic city of Granada, home to the “must-see” Alhambra Palace.
Visit the Alhambra Palace!
Today, go on a privately guided visit to the Alhambra Palace in Granada. The Alhambra was a palace, a fortress, and a citadel, as well as the residence of the Nasrid Sultans, top government officials, court servants, and the royal guard.
It is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Rising above the modern lower town, the Alhambra and the Albaycín, situated on two adjacent hills, form the medieval part of Granada. To the east of the Alhambra are the magnificent gardens of the Generalife, the former rural residence of the emirs who ruled this part of Spain in the 13th and 14th centuries.
The residential district of the Albaycín is a rich repository of Moorish architecture, which blends harmoniously with the traditional Andalusian architecture.
Travel to Frigiliana
Today, travel by car from Granada to Frigiliana in the Malaga province. Once you arrive, check in at Villa Carmen.
Visit the white village of Frigiliana. Voted the "prettiest village in Andalucía" by the Spanish tourism authority, Frigiliana is situated high on a mountain ridge overlooking the sea with spectacular panoramic views. The village is a tangle of narrow cobbled streets lined by whitewashed houses, their wrought-iron balconies filled with planters of brilliant red geraniums.
Small plazas provide shady seating while the village bars are popular with visitors who come here to taste the locally produced wine. There are also several excellent shops selling pottery and ceramics, including decorative plates with distinctive designs.
Spend Time in Magnificent Nerja
Travel by car from your hotel to Malaga Train Station. Today, you will visit Nerja, a coastal town in Malaga province.
The heart of Nerja is its spectacular Balcón de Europa the "Balcony of Europe". This magnificent promenade runs along the edge of a towering cliff, which was once the site of a great Moorish castle.
