Welcome to Madagascar!
Today, your flight touches down in Antananarivo, the capital of Madagascar. Upon arrival at the airport, grab your luggage, your visa (if applicable), and we recommend you exchange your money for the local currency, Malagasy ariary, right away.
You'll meet your friendly driver who will bring you to the Carlton Hotel, a charming hotel located right in the city center.
Enjoy the Wildlife of Kirindy Reserve
Today, you will take a domestic flight to Morondava.
Upon arrival, you will be transferred to the remote Kirindy Village. There, you will visit the Kirindy Forest, a private reserve where numerous species of nocturnal lemurs live among the baobab trees. You'll walk beneath the canopies of drought-adapted trees and plants and observe animals such as sifaka, birds, and bats in their natural habitats. In the evening, you will set out on a night visit to encounter the incredible nocturne wildlife that can only be seen at this remarkable reserve.
Pass Through The Spiny Forest
This day marks the beginning of your adventure within the deep western part of Madagascar, the gateway to the UNESCO classified Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park. This journey will take you on an eight hour driving adventure across two rivers and dirt roads.
First, you will pass through a Spiny Forest before reaching the Tsiribihina River which you can cross by ferry or pirogue, a dugout wooden canoe.
Depending on the time, you may have lunch at Belo sur Tsiribihina or somewhere on the road. You will arrive at the end of the afternoon in Bekopaka.
Traverse the Manambolo Gorge
After a short drive from your hotel to the entrance of the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park, you will navigate the awe-inspiring Gorge of Manambolo.
This magnificent river, which flows along the edge of the park, is known for its vast canyons, caves, and otherworldly landscapes. Here, in the extraordinary environment of this national park, you will be captivated by the untamed wilderness of Madagascar.
Visit the Big Tsingy
Today, you will spend the entire day visiting another part of Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park: The Big Tsingy. This region is mainly composed of unique rocky structures, the famous "Tsingy."
Covering an extraordinary expanse, the Tsingy of Bemaraha National Park was the first Malagasy attraction to be listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site. The park's karst-peak mountains are internationally renowned despite being extremely difficult to access. With your expert guide, you will explore this rare geological treasure and discover the exquisite beauty that lies within.
Marvel at Magnificent Baobab Trees
Today, you will depart this rocky paradise and embark on a journey to the western coastal city of Morondava. This is an eight-hour drive which will enable you to experience the famous Baobab Avenue at sunset. Composed of a grand stretch of Baobab trees ("Adansonia grandidieri") that rise from either side of a dirt road, this alley is beautifully painted in gold as the sun begins its descent.
To get a full appreciation of the majestic beauty of the Baobab, which are called "Reniala" or "Forest's Mother" in the Malagasy language, you will spend some time at this iconic destination before continuing on to the city of Morondava. En route, you will see burial tombs of the Sakalava tribe, which feature impressive wooden carvings.
Catch a Flight to Antananarivo
Today, you will be transferred back to the airport at Morondava. There, you will catch your return flight to Antananarivo.
Upon your arrival in the capital, you will be transferred to your hotel. There, you will have a night rest before heading to the East of Madagascar.
Visit Unforgettable Private Reserves
After breakfast at your hotel, you will drive eastward to Andasibe, a journey lasting about three and a half hours. Andasibe is home to another impressive national park, Andasibe National Park, which is considered one of the nicest and well-known parks of Madagascar.
Here, you will have time to visit private parks at night. One possibility is Mitsinjo Park, which features a rich diversity of fauna and flora. You can meet lemurs at Mitsinjo Park, but this private park is best-known for its amphibian species and reptiles.
Another option is Vakona Private Park, which is famous for its lemur islands, crocodile park, and vast array of nocturnal species.
Soak up the Scenery at Andasibe National Park
You will spend the morning visiting Andasibe National Park. Here, you will find 11 species of lemurs, many species of birds, large chameleons, an orchid park, rosewood trees, lianas, and more. A highlight will be observing the largest of the lemurs in this forest - the Indri.
After spending the morning enjoying the richness of Andasibe's forest, you will drive to Manambato, a coastal village in the east of the country, a four-hour drive away from Andasibe. Once in Manambato, you will be transferred by boat to Akanin'ny Nofy, "dream nest" in Malagasy, a small haven of peace in the east of Madagascar where you will stay at the beautiful Palmarium Hotel. Here you will have the chance to see the famous Aye-Aye lemur during a night visit to the hotel's private reserve.
Relax On the Ampitabe Lakeshore
The whole day will be spent within the paradise setting of Akanin'ny nofy. Here, you can enjoy a plethora of relaxing activities. Consider visiting a private reserve, which features an array of lemur species, take a boat tour on the famous Pangalanes’ channel, or visit a local village.
Afterward, you can relax on the shores of Ampitabe Lake and admire the peaceful beauty of your surroundings as sunset unfolds.
Venture to the Scenic Mahambo Village
After two unforgettable days in Akanin'ny nofy, you will be taken to the coastal city of Tamatave by boat.
You will sail upon the Pangalanes channel, an artificial river which was mainly used during the colonial period for bringing goods from the southeastern part of Madagascar to the Tamatave harbor, the country's first harbor.
From Tamatave, you will be taken to the little village of Mahambo, a well-known spot for surfers. There, you will spend the night at the charming La Pirogue hotel.
Travel to Stunning Sainte Marie Island
Today, you will embark on a three-hour Indian Ocean boating excursion as you venture to Sainte Marie Island. This small island off the east coast of Madagascar, is a tropical paradise with palm trees, cinnamon trees, clove trees, anthuriums, orchids, and ebullient bougainvillea blossoms. In short, Sainte Marie is a natural botanical garden.
In the island's main town, Ambodifotratra, you can visit the oldest Catholic church in Madagascar.
Embark on a Whale Watching Odyssey
You will spend two free days on Sainte Marie island.
During the first day, you will embark on a whale watching excursion to observe the whales that populate these stunning turquoise waters from July to September. You can also spend some time exploring the interesting sights of Sainte Marie, such as a pirate cemetery, the oldest Catholic church of Madagascar, the Antanandava waterfalls, or the nearby island Iles aux Nattes.
Enjoy a Day on Sainte Marie Island
You will spend another magnificent day in paradise on Sainte Marie Island.
Take this day to simply soak up the extraordinary tropical atmosphere. Relax at the hotel beaches during the day and as night falls enjoy the magnificent island sunset. The hotel will also assist you in organizing scuba diving and snorkeling excursions to the natural coral reefs that abound in this region of Madagascar.
Today, you will be transferred back to the airport of Sainte-Marie. There, you will catch your return flight to Antananarivo.
Upon arrival in the capital, you will be transferred to a hotel near the airport for your use during the day. Afterwards, you will be taken to Ivato International Airport to catch your flight for your journey onward, hopefully departing Madagascar with unforgettable memories.
