Admire The Magnificent Sigiriya Rock Fortress
After breakfast, climb the 5th century Sigiriya Rock Fortress. It is a world heritage site built by King Kashyapa. The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 meters from the scrub jungle.
The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70-hectare fortified town. Visit the world-renowned frescoes of the 'Heavenly Maidens' or Frescoes of Damsels of Sigiriya. In the afternoon, set out on a guided sightseeing tour of Polonnaruwa - the Medieval Kingdom from the 11th to the 13th century.
Ethnic harmony prevailed between the Sinhalese and the Tamils during this period. Buddhist and Hindu Temples located in the same complex and many other ruins symbolize this fact.
Marvel At The Golden Cave Temples
After breakfast, leave on bicycles (or by walk) through Augandawa Village, visit the local temple and evoke blessings from the priest. Visit a villager’s house and enjoy a warm herbal drink or a king coconut. Ride through the village passing paddy fields and Chena cultivations.
Return to the hotel. Thereafter, take part in a cooking demonstration on Sri Lankan rice and curry preparation (2 or 3 curries) and enjoy the typical Sri Lankan lunch overlooking the paddy fields.
In the afternoon visit the Golden Cave Temples. This was built by king Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. and it is a World Heritage Site.
Travel To Magical Anuradhapura
After breakfast, set on a sightseeing tour of the ancient mystic city of Anuradhapura. The remarkable city of Anuradhapura is Sri Lanka’s most sacred town and has some of the most extensive ruins in the world.
This city served as a great monastic Center. It remained residence and royal capital for over 100 successive Sinhalese Kings for around 1500 years from the 4th century BC to the 8th century AD, after which it was abandoned and the capital moved to Polonnaruwa.
Anuradhapura has eight main places of veneration, known as “atamasthana”. They are Sri Maha Bodhi, Ruwanweliseya, Thuparamaya, Lovamahapaya (Brazen Palace), Abhayagiri Dagoba, Jetavanaramaya, MirisavetiStupa, Lankaramaya.
