Welcome To Peru!
Welcome to Arequipa, also known as the white city. With an altitude of only 2300 meters above sea level, the city is the perfect place to acclimatize and begin your Andean adventure.
Upon your arrival, you will be met by local staff who will take you to your hotel in the historical city center. Depending on your arrival time, you have plenty of different options for you to make the most of your first night in Arequipa.
Explore The White City Of Arequipa
We’ll start today by visiting “San Camilo”, Arequipa’s main Market founded in 1881. It is here where most “Arequipeños” buy groceries, flowers, clothes, shoes, and other quality items at a low cost.
After this interesting experience, we’ll continue the city’s main square and the “Compañia” Church, famous for its rich baroque style and the colorful Cupola of Saint Ignacio. Next, we’ll have a look at “El Tambo La Cabezona” a 17th-century apartment compound following the classic colonial architectural style.
Finally, we continue walking to the Santa Catalina Monastery, a very interesting 16th Century religious enclosure that was only opened to the public in 1970. This site is a city within a city and is probably the highlight of any visit to Arequipa.
Journey To The Colca Canyon
Today you will be traveling to Chivay in the Colca Canyon. The scenic route offers beautiful views of the surrounding volcanoes and high Andean landscapes.
You will cross Salinas and Aguada Blanca National Park, where you can spot wild vicuñas, llamas, alpacas and sometimes Andean flamingos, too. You will stop at the volcano viewpoint of Patapampa before descending into the Colca Valley and reaching the final destination, the charming village of Yanque.
Relax in your hotel or take a walk through the village. You can explore its plaza, its colonial church or its museum and if you wish, you can also visit the local hot springs today.
Enjoy the View From Cruz Del Condor
The second day exploring the Colca Canyon starts with an early journey to the Cruz del Condo (Condor’s Cross) viewpoint, a perfect spot to observe the Andean condors and to see the depth of the canyon.
After spending some time at the viewpoint, you will make your way back to Yanque. On your way, you will stop at some traditional Andean villages and panoramic viewpoints of the canyon.
This afternoon, you can join a complimentary hike to Oqolle’s Amphitheater (Pre-Inca terraces), the Sifon Bridge (where you will see colcas) and the Uyu Uyu ruins offered by the hotel. Before returning to the hotel you can also visit Yanque’s hot springs located on the banks of the Colca River.
Travel To Arequipa
Wake up and enjoy the morning views of the canyon.
After a delicious breakfast, you will begin the three-hour return journey to Arequipa. Enjoy the scenic views on the way back!
Discover Beautiful Cusco
After breakfast, head back to Lima airport to take your flight to Cusco, the old Inca Capital. If possible, try to book a seat on the left side of the aircraft as some of the best views of the Andes can be seen while looking east.
Upon arriving, you’ll be met by local staff who will be expecting you with a sign with your name. Once acquainted, head to the Sacred Valley of the Incas.
Because of its lower elevation and its peaceful atmosphere, the Sacred Valley is the perfect place to enjoy your first days in Cusco as you adapt to the high altitude.
You can choose between two routes to get to Cusco.
Traverse The Sacred Valley Of The Incas
Today, you will visit the Ollantaytambo archaeological site, an impressive Inca complex that protected this area from incursions from the Amazon Basin.
Ollantaytambo is one of the best examples of Inca architecture you can see nowadays. Visiting it in the morning will allow you to enjoy this site to the fullest before the larger crowds arrive in the afternoon.
For lunch, you can experience a traditional cooking technique called Pachamanca. Other available options for today include visiting a local community or going hiking with llamas.
Marvel At Amazing Machu Picchu
Today, after enjoying a nice breakfast, you'll head to Ollantaytambo train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes.
The train journey is a spectacle in itself- appreciate the changing landscape of green fields, eucalyptus forests, and lush jungles while always traveling beside the meandering Urubamba River.
Upon arriving you’ll head up to Machu Picchu. Take a bus up the steep zigzagging road to Machu Picchu Citadel, located on an impressive mountain setting. You can enjoy your tasty lunch with great views of the citadel here. Later, take your guided tour around the main areas of the citadel. You can tour the site until it closes.
Pay A Trip To Chinchero
In the morning, your transport will be ready to pick you up and transfer you back to Cusco.
You will cross the village of Chinchero that is famous for its textile workshops. If you haven't seen it yet, you can make a stop there. In Cusco, you will first check in at your hotel and then enjoy a free afternoon.
Discover The Secrets Of Cusco
Cusco is one of the most interesting cities in Peru and South America. You will have the entire day to explore the streets and plazas of this UNESCO World Heritage City at your own pace.
There are plenty of things you can see!
