Welcome to Peru!
Welcome to Peru and Cusco!
Upon arriving at Cuzco airport, we will be met by our local staff who will take us on our private transport towards the Sacred Valley Incas.
Because of its lower elevation (2,870 meters above sea level or 9,415 feet) and its peaceful atmosphere, the Sacred Valley is the perfect place to enjoy your first days in Cusco as you adapt to the high altitude.
On the way to our hotel, we'll stop at Awanacancha, where we can see all the different camelids of Peruvian Andes, and at the traditional Indian market of Pisac, where we shall be able to appreciate many local customs and observe innumerable regional products. Sunday is the best day to visit the market because farmers come from all over the area to trade their products; however, the market is open every day and is always a very interesting place to visit.
Finally, before reaching our hotel in the valley, we’ll stop for a delicious lunch in Paraqay restaurant, part of a wonderful project that gives young people in the Sacred Valley the opportunity to enroll in the Arariwa cooking school in Urubamba.
Explore the Best of the Sacred Valley of the Incas
This morning we’ll visit Ollantaytambo archaeological site, an impressive Inca complex that protected this area from incursions from the Amazon Basin. Ollantaytambo is one of the best examples of Inca architecture we can see nowadays and visiting it in the morning will allow us to enjoy this site to the fullest before the larger crowds arrive in the afternoon.
For lunch, we´ll get ready to experience a traditional cooking technique called Pachamanca. This is a traditional cooking technique where the food is prepared underground with preheated stones and covered with banana leaves to separate ingredients from the soil. This is a very symbolic (and tasty) way of cooking whilst venerating the “Pachamama” (Mother Earth). In the afternoon, we’ll return to your hotel.
Discover Breathtaking Machu Picchu
Today, after enjoying a nice breakfast, we'll head to Ollantaytambo train station to board the train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town). The train journey is a spectacle in itself as we'll be able to appreciate the changing landscape from green fields and eucalyptus forests to lush jungle always traveling beside the meandering Urubamba River.
Upon arriving we’ll head up to Machu Picchu. We take a 20-minute bus up the steep zigzagging road to Machu Picchu Citadel, located on an impressive mountain setting.
On arrival, we’ll decide if we would like to first hike up to the Inti Punku viewpoint (Sun Gate), a nice spot located about 40 minutes away from the main site. We can enjoy our tasty box lunch with great views of the citadel here. Then, at around 2.00pm, it’s the ideal time to take our guided tour around the main areas of the citadel as most travelers should already be leaving at this point. We can tour the site until it closes and 5 pm, time at which we’ll head down to the village and have some free time before taking the 7 pm train back to Ollantaytambo and private transfer to our hotel.
Visit a Textile Workshop in Chinchero
Today you will be able to wake up late and relax after a long but very entertaining day at Machu Picchu yesterday. At around 10am, your transport will be ready to pick you up and take you back to Cusco. This scenic journey takes approximately 2 hours.
En route we’ll be crossing the village of Chinchero, famous for its textile workshops. If you haven’t seen it yet, we can make a short stop here upon request. On arrival, check into your hotel and enjoy the afternoon strolling around gorgeous Cusco.
Wander the Gorgeous Streets of World Heritage Cusco
Cusco is one of the most interesting cities in Peru and South America.
Today you'll have the entire day to explore the streets and plazas of this UNESCO World Heritage City at your own pace.
Go On a Boat Trip up Tambopata River
Get ready to board your flight to Puerto Maldonado, the gateway to Peru’s Southern Amazon and the Tambopata National Reserve.
On arrival, you'll be welcomed by our private guide and head to our nearby office to drop off your excess luggage and register. Afterwards, we will start our way to the Inferno Community, about 1 hour away, where we will embark on a boat trip up Tambopata River, during which we might see impressive flora and also some wildlife. Once at the lodge we’ll be shown the facilities and briefed on the rules in the rainforest. As we have a private guide with us, we can choose together which activities we would like to do and how we would like to spend our time in the Amazon.
Spot Amazing Wildlife and Learn About Traditional Amazonian Fruits and Herbs
Welcome to the Amazon! There are a wide variety of activities which you can choose from depending on your interests.
You can do 3 or 4 excursions per day, depending on which activities you choose. Enjoy your stay!
