Welcome to Peru!
Upon arrival to Lima's Airport, look out for the friendly face who will pick you up before transferring you to your hotel in Miraflores, where you are free to relax and wander around at your own pace and leisure.
Lima is a city with a history spanning millennia. It mixes pre-Columbian temples with towering high-rises. With galleries debuting edgy contemporary art and a new gastronomic scene bursting at the seams. This sprawling metropolis now oozes the sophistication of a modern Latin American city.
Depending on the time of arrival, we have plenty of suggestions for you to make the most of your first day in Lima.
Sojourn through Cosmopolitan Lima
This morning we’ll pick you up from your hotel to depart on a tour that will take us back in time through the Colonial and Pre-Hispanic stages of Peruvian History.
Our first stop we’ll be at the Larco Museum. The collection of exhibits at Larco features the finest gold, silver and ceramics collection from Ancient Peru and offers the perfect introduction to Peru's millenary history. After, we head to Lima’s City Center to have a look at its imposing architecture. Here we will visit the 16th century Santo Domingo Convent and have a look at Lima’s main square.
Feel free to spend the rest of the day exploring at your own pace and leisure.
Head for the Andes in Cusco
After an early breakfast, we take a 1-hour flight to the city of Cusco. If possible, we will try to get a seat on the left side of the aircraft as some of the best views of the Andes can be seen from this side.
Upon arrival at Cusco airport, we will be met by our local staff who will welcome us and take us on our private transport towards the Sacred Valley Incas.
Because of its lower elevation and its peaceful atmosphere, the Sacred Valley is the perfect place to enjoy your first days in Cusco as you adapt to the high altitude.
On the way to our hotel, we'll stop at Awanacancha, where we can see all the different camelids of Peruvian Andes and then we’ll have a delicious lunch in Parqay restaurant. As a part of this wonderful project young people in the Sacred Valley have the opportunity to enroll in the Arariwa cooking school in Urubamba.
Explore the Towering Andes Region
This morning we'll set off on a tour to visit some of the Sacred Valley's most impressive sites. First, we reach Moray, one of the most unusual Inca sites consisting of circular terraces built upon a geographical depression. This seems to have been an agricultural experimental station used to adapt crops to different temperatures.
Then we continue to Maras, an impressive salt-extraction complex consisting of thousands of small terraces. During the dry season they fill the pans every 3 days with saltwater that comes from a natural spring, once the water is evaporated, they collect the salt. The salt is then sold at the markets of the region, just like it had been done since before the Inca times.
Explore Ollantaytambo and Andean Pachamanca
This morning, we head to our the Ollantaytambo archaeological site, an impressive Inca complex that protected this area from incursions from the Amazon Basin. Ollantaytambo is one of the best examples of Inca architecture we can see nowadays. We'll then be able to walk along its cobblestone streets and look around the village.
Afterward, we will get ready to experience “Pachamanca”, a traditional cooking technique where the food is prepared underground with preheated stones and covered with banana leaves to separate ingredients from the soil.
After lunch, we'll walk to the train station to board the afternoon train to Aguas Calientes, where we board the train. The train journey is a spectacle itself as you at the landscape changing from green fields and eucalyptus forests to lush jungle.
The Magnitude of Machu Picchu
Today is the big day! Early in the morning, we'll take a 20-minute bus up the steep zigzagging road to Machu Picchu Citadel, located on an impressive mountain setting. Shrouded by the mist of the Andes and surrounded by steep escarpments and lush vegetation, it is a sight that lives up to every expectation.
Once here, together with our private guide, we’ll prepare to explore every corner of the awe-inspiring citadel.
After visiting Machu Picchu, we have some free time in Aguas Calientes before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo. Here private transport will be waiting to take you to your hotel.
Explore the Ancient Heritage of Cusco
This morning we'll embark on a walking tour of the city rich in ancient heritage.
Our tour takes us not only through the most touristic sites in Cusco such as the Main Square, ornate cathedrals and Koricancha or “Temple of the Sun” but also along ancient streets, local markets and traditional neighborhoods where we will discover the magic of this beautiful city.
The afternoon is free for you to stroll around and discover this ancient city by yourselves. We'll be more than happy to give you our best recommendations for restaurants, shops, and additional activities in the city.
Uncovering History in La Paz
After breakfast, we'll head to Cusco's airport to board our flight to La Paz, Bolivia.
In the afternoon, we’ll head towards the Moon Valley in the lower area of La Paz. This peculiar site was created by the erosion from the wind, which formed a bizarre lunar-maze landscape. From there, we continue to the Killi Killi viewpoint for amazing views of the city and its surrounding mountains. Afterward, we continue to the historical center to visit Jaen Street, a picturesque old avenue that maintains its traditional architecture. Here we will visit the Gold Museum that exhibits interesting collections of Tiwanaku and Inca’s civilizations.
Next, we head to Murillo Square, where we’ll visit the government palace, Senate and Metropolitan cathedral. Finally, we’ll end today's tour by visiting the Indian and witches’ market, the perfect place to buy unique souvenirs and maybe a lucky charm!
Journey to Another World in Uyuni
Today we will get ready to enjoy a wonderful adventure in the Uyuni Salt flats, the world’s largest! In the morning, we will take a flight from La Paz to land at the shores of the Uyuni salt flats.
Be sure too look at for the vicunas and flamingoes and see what entertaining photos you can take be changing perspective in this unique environment.
Upon arrival, we’ll head to our hotel before departing south through the highlands, passing by the villages of San Cristobal and Culpina K until the rich and high valley of Alota. We will observe the beautiful stone formations made by the erosion until the village of Villamar.
Discover Eduardo Abaroa National Reserve
Today we prepare ourselves for a long but fun day in the Eduardo Abaroa National Reserve (REA)!
We start today’s adventure by entering the REA to visit Laguna Colorada, a wonderful red-like lagoon declared a RAMSAR site due to the nesting of over 30,000 flamingos at 4,278 m. Then, we will continue up to observe the geysers “Sol de Mañana”, passing alongside Challviri lagoon with its hot spring in the shores of Polques.
After that, we cross the high desert of Pampas de Dali and enjoy amazing views, on our way to reach Laguna Verde, a green lake in the foothills of the Licancabur Mountain. Finally, we return to Laguna Colorada and enter the highland deserts of Siloli, where we will visit Arbol de Piedra and Ojo de Perdiz.
Bathe in the Serenity of Uyuni
This morning, after an early breakfast, we start our day off by exploring Uyuni before heading north, along the mountain range to Alota town.
On route, we will pass by San Agustin and San Juan villages to finally arrive in Isla Incaghuasi, a wonderful landscape of volcanic rock formations and gigantic cactus. It is the remnants of an ancient volcano which was previously submerged over 40,000 years ago.
Afterward, we will continue our way to Colchani town, where locals collect and produce salt. If we are lucky enough, we will be able to enjoy an amazing sunset that sees the landscape shift between multicolor hues.
Explore La Paz City Streets
After breakfast, we will be transferred to the local airport to board our flight back to La Paz city. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by your driver and then transferred to the comfort of your hotel.
