Welcome to Ecuador
After your flight, you are taken to your hotel to check in. Take some time to relax before you'll be picked up for your first excursion of the trip: a city tour through Quito. Explore the colonial district on a walking tour with your English-speaking guide. Ready to learn about the Ecuador's rich history? You will visit Panecillo hill, the Independence square, La Compañía church and the Alameda square.
Next, a special place awaits your visit: the Middle of the World. Yes that's right, you get the chance to walk along the equator. A 30 meter high monument at the site houses an ethnographic museum. Here you learn about the different native civilizations in Ecuador and their lifestyle. Also, don't miss the Intinan, an open-air museum explaining the effect the position of the Equator has on gravity and other natural forces. After this exciting first day you are taken back to your hotel in Quito.
Fly to the Galapagos Islands
Today you take a flight to the world-famous Galapagos islands. After your arrival at the airport, you are transferred to your home for the next days, a yacht! Enjoy a delicious lunch and visit the island of Mosquera. If you feel like activity, take a snorkeling trip to explore the ocean floor and the beautiful underwater flora and fauna. For a more relaxed afternoon, how about a walk along the beach of white coral sand? You are likely to meet the locals here, Galapagos sea lions! Watch those beach-loving creatures as they rest and play in the sand. Don't forget to take your camera with you to capture this moment!
Explore the Caldera of a Sunken Volcano
In the morning the yacht throws the anchor in Darwin Bay at Genovesa Island, a partly collapsed and submerged caldera of a submarine volcano. Take a guided hike from the coral sand beach, passing mangroves groves and tidal creeks, until you reach the barren lava formations and the ridge of the cliffs, which offers a stunning view. Watch Whimbrels and wandering tattlers forage along the surf next to resting Galapagos sea lions.
After returning to the boat and a strengthening lunch, you have the chance to take another dive and snorkel in the bay. In the afternoon, a guided hike explores the seabird colonies on the clifftop. Watch red-footed boobies, as they breed on the cliff tops and bring back fish they caught to feed their young.
Encounter the Many Endemic Species of Galapagos
While you enjoyed your sleep, the yacht has traveled to the South Plaza inlet. The morning is reserved for an easy guided walk along the South Plaza. This is the perfect place to encounter the endemic Galapagos land iguanas.
After the hike the boat continues to the Santa Fe islands. Watch out for bottle nose dolphins along the way, there are common in this area! Enjoy lunch on the boat and then make yourself ready to head to the island for a guided nature walk. Among many other interesting animals and plants, you can see the giant prickly pear cactus. These massive cacti have thick trunks and can grow up to 10 meters tall. Watch the sea lions on the coast, but don't forget to look up either, as the Galapagos hawks are circling the sky, waiting to snatch away a lava lizard for dinner.
In the evening you can go for another snorkeling excursion. Or do you prefer to relax onboard and enjoy the sunset?
Tropical Marine Paradise at Kicker Rock
This is your last day on Galapagos, but you cannot leave without a visit to Kicker Rock. Nature has molded a massive block of offshore rock to resemble a giant upside down high heel. Off the cliff walls of the rock lies one of the best diving and snorkeling spots of Galapagos. Grab your mask and jump in to see colorful tropical fish, octopuses, sharks (even hammerhead sharks if you are lucky!), Pacific green turtles, and other fascinating marine animals. Above the water, spot blue-footed boobies and marvel at their strange mating dance ritual: the males try to impress female birds by showing off their blue feet. This is really impressing to see!
After this excursion, you will be transferred to the airport. It's time to say goodbye to Galapagos. But, don't be sad. A new adventure is waiting for you: Peru!
