Upon arrival at Yangon International Airport, you will be warmly welcomed by a trusted guide and accompanied to your hotel in the city. Once checked in, you are free to relax and enjoy the remainder of your day in Myanmar's biggest city.
Discover Exciting Yangon on a Guided Tour
This morning, after breakfast at your hotel, embark on a guided tour of Yangon. During your exploration of this dynamic metropolis, you will visit Sule Pagoda. Situated in the very center of downtown Yangon, the tall zedi of Sule Pagoda is a city landmark.
While in the area, you will also have the chance to visit British, colonial-era buildings such as the City Hall, Immigration office and the High Court.
Your tour continues to Scott Market, a historic marketplace featuring a vast array of Burmese handicrafts as well as a lively atmosphere.
Next, feast your eyes on the Chaukhtatgyi Reclining Buddha, which is situated in a large, metal-roofed pavilion on Shwegondine Road.
Finally, arrive at the iconic Shwedagon Pagoda, an ancient city landmark located in midtown Yangon between the People’s Parkand the Kandawgyi Lake.
Venture to the Spiritual Heart of Myanmar
After checking out from your hotel, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Bagan.
This ancient city, situated alongside the Irrawaddy River was the capital of Myanmar from the 11th to 13th centuries. Here, you will visit the Bagan Archaeological Area, which features an extraordinary collection of 2,000 temples and pagodas.
Among the exquisite structures you will see here, are the Ananda Temple, one of the finest, largest and best-preserved temples of Bagan; Htilo-Minlo Temple, a massive complex dating from 1218, which features traces of old murals, original fine plaster carving, and glazed sandstone decorations.
In the late morning, you will check in to your hotel in Bagan. Rest during the high heat of midday, and continue your exploration to awe-inspiring temples and pagodas later in the afternoon.
Cycle to Temples, Markets, and Monasteries
Your station guide will meet you at your hotel and join you on a full-day bicycling tour to ancient temples and small villages.
Start with a visit to the colorful Nyaung U Market where the locals come to buy and trade fresh produce and handicrafts. Continue to Shwezigon Pagoda, known for its magnificent golden stupa, and Wetkyi-In Gubyaukgyi, a cave temple with exquisite Jataka murals.
Finally, you'll visit the elegant Htilominlo Temple, noted for fine plaster carvings and glazed sandstone decorations.
After lunch at a local restaurant (travelers' expense), observe the production of traditional lacquerware. Then, visit Ananda Temple, an architectural masterpiece reflecting the early-style of Bagan temple construction, before continuing to Ananda Okkyaung, one of the few surviving early monasteries.
Ride a Hot Air Balloon Over the Temples of Bagan
Today you can enjoy a truly unforgettable experience as you embark on a breathtaking hot air balloon ride over the ancient city of Bagan at sunrise! (optional)
As you drift above the city, will be astounded and amazed by the beauty and diversity of the temples and stupas below you.
Later, set off on a drive to Mount Popa, the flower mountain. A little oasis outside the city, Mount Popa is said to be the home of sacred spirits. From here, you can take in entrancing views across the plains of upper Myanmar.
Those with strong legs can climb the nearly 800 steep steps that lead to the extinct volcanic vent surrounded by pagodas and small temples.
On your way back to Bagan, visit Shwe Hlaing Village. Here, rural villagers make their living by producing distinctive items from the toddy palm trees.
Your Myanmar adventure ends today. If time allows, enjoy breakfast at your hotel. At the appropriate time, you will be driven to the Nyaung U Airport to catch your onward flight.
