Local Myanmar Experts
The trip.me way of travel
Myanmar was a highlight of a time in Asia (25 years). The Trip arranged by Trip.me was excellent and Nyein spent much time and countless emails helping us form a truly personal experience. The guides throughout the trip were professional and experienced, especially the guide in Yangon Zaw Zaw who had a wide knowledge on a variety of subjects - even taking us to places which were not normally part of the itinerary - but offered us a deeper insight into the daily living of the local people. His expertise was exemplary and his graciousness and personal touch endearing. The Savoy Hotel was a good colonial base in old Yangon. The Shwegadon Temple in Yangon was a peak top experience watching the sun set again the backdrop of this amazing pagoda! Bagan - beautiful sight of stupas across the plains at sunset. The Bagan River Hotel definitely needs to update as the rooms and bathrooms are very shabby but having dinner on the river in the hotel grounds surrounded by temples doesn't get much better in Bagan and we were pleasantly surprised by a very good meal. Inle Lake our highlight in Myanmar - cruising up and down the lake in longboats on the lake was a wonderful local experience as well as visiting the local industries on the lake on homes on stilts (textiles, silversmiths, lotus weaving, papermaking) through the narrow canals was a memory to treasure. We also experienced a fabulous cooking experience at Min's - to be recommended - great participating - May (Min's wife) made us feel so at home and we cooked local dishes and then sat and enjoy watching the lovely vista across the lake to the mountains beyond! Our hotel the Aureum Palace Hotel was perfect - chose a lake side villa to really enjoy the setting of the lake, especially the sunsets. The rooms are large - in fact enormous - food: - breakfast average but evening meal good with Asian and Western choice and in a lovely setting. Perhaps because we came out of season we really enjoying the tranquility of the place as there weren't so many people around. We also visited the Aythaya winery - lovely drive through the hills around 40 mins from the lake. We had no expectation as the reviews hadn't been great but we much enjoyed our tasting. Sadly they weren't running guided tours on the day but we enjoyed sampling amongst the vineyards and much enjoyed the experience. We have travelled to many wine growing regions, husband South African, and we were pleasantly surprised how they had developed wine in this region.. long may it continue! Our guide in Inle Lake, Koon also enabled us to visit an Orphanage in the area we knew and wanted to visit so we were very grateful. Thank you Trip me it was a fantastic well run experience to Myanmar and thanks to all our guides and drivers!Read More Read More Less
