Arrival In Mexico
Welcome to Mexico! You land in fascinating Mexico City, one of the largest metropolitan areas in the world. With its culinary scene exploding and a vibrant cultural scene gaining more and more international esteem, Mexico City is a great tourist destination.
Upon arrival at the airport, you will be transferred to your hotel. Your day is at your own leisure. You can rest at the hotel or wander the city on your own.
A City Tour in Mexico City
After breakfast, you will enjoy a guided tour in beautiful Mexico City. The Zocalo is the ideal spot to begin your sightseeing. This is the beating heart of Mexico's capital! Take pictures of the largest cathedral on the continent! Then, you will head to the Palacio Nacional, which houses the President’s offices. It was built on top of the Palace of Montezuma and features frescos painted by famous Mexican muralist Diego Rivera. Then, continue to see the Templo Mayor and the ancient Aztec capital Tenochtitlan. You will find the pre-Columbian temple in the middle of the urban jungle, a truly amazing sight!
In the afternoon, you will visit the National Museum of Anthropology. You will end the day with a stroll in the Chapultepec Park.
Visit the Temples of Teotihuacan
Today, it is time to explore the surrounding areas of Mexico City. You will visit the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe,and considered a very important pilgrimage site for Roman Catholics from all over the world.
Then, you will head to the archeological site of Teotihuacan, where you have the chance to see the pyramids of the Moon and the Sun, the Temple of the Feathered Serpent, the Temple of the Feathered Snails and the Palace of the Jaguars! Afterwards, you will visit a obsidian carving workshop and learn how these beautiful carvings are created.
Explore the Village of Cholula
Today, you will visit Cholula, a village at the foothills of Volcano Popocatépetl. Cholula is best known for its archeology park, which is host to Mexico’s largest pyramid - Pyramide Tepanapa. You will climb hundreds of stairs to reach the top of the pyramid, but the stunning view from above will make up for the climb. Before you end the day, you will proceed to Puebla to explore the city. After a city tour of Puebla, you will be transferred to your hotel to rest.
The Journey to Oaxaca
After breakfast, you will drive to Oaxaca, declared an UNESCO World Heritage Site, and considered one of Mexico’s most beautiful towns for its colorful façades! Admire the view of superb candelabra cacti on the way as you drive through the Sierra Madre Orientale mountain range. You will be transferred to your hotel upon arrival in Oaxaca. Then, you will proceed to a guided tour of the town center and visit the Zocalo, the Santo Domingo Cathedral, and its museum, Benito Juarez’ house.
Explore the Stunning View of Oaxaca
Today, you will visit the surroundings of Oaxaca. You will enjoy a guided visit to the prestigious Zapotec site Monte Alban, situated at 2,000 m above sea level. From up here, the view over the valley is simply spectacular! Monte Alban is known for its harmonious architecture, its outstanding stone sculptures, its sumptuous graves, and its astronomical observatory, supposedly the oldest of Mesoamerica.
A Magnificent View of the Canyon
In the morning, you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Tuxtla. Once you arrive at Tuxtla airport, you will drive to the village of Chiapa de Corzo. You will board a boat to cross the Canyon del Sumidero on the Rio Chiapas. Enjoy the breathtaking view of the "Christmas Tree Falls", a magnificent waterfall crashing down an eroded rock wall. The Canyon is home to a great variety of wildlife, including herons, vultures, and even crocodiles! Afterwards, you will drive to San Cristobal de Las Casas to explore the indigenous town and its traditional market.
Getting Up Close with the Locals
After breakfast, you will explore San Cristobal de las Casas, located at the center of an indigenous area set in a gorgeous highland valley surrounded by pine forest! Then, you will proceed to the village of San Juan de Chamula. Here, you can observe the local religious practice of a form of syncretism: a mixture of Christian beliefs and ancestral rituals.
In the afternoon, you will travel to Zinacantan and meet a local Tzotzil family. They will invite you to their house and share their customs and traditions. The mistress of the house will let you taste a glass of pox (a corn-based liquor) and handmade tortillas.
Have Fun at the Waterfalls
After breakfast, you will leave the cool and foggy highlands behind and travel to the warm and humid lowland. All year long, water comes down from the mountains and eventually creates magnificent waterfalls like Misol- Ha or Agua Azul. Have your lunch near the water and enjoy the beautiful panorama. Swim in one of the many pools shaped by the waterfalls. After a refreshing experience, you will continue your trip to the superb Mayan site of Palenque, nestled in the heart of the tropical forest. The soaring jungle-swathed temples of Palenque are a national treasure and one of the best examples of Maya architecture in Mexico! Enjoy your sightseeing in Palenque!
Explore the Magical Sights of Palenque
Today, you will visit the archaeological site of Palenque. It might well be the most magical place in Mexico. At the heart of the Inscriptions Temple stands the crypt of King Pakal. It still today contains the remains of the powerful monarch, covered with jewels and a mortuary mask made of jade mosaic. The surrounding jungle and the buried ruins create a fascinating scenery and you can easily imagine the magnificence of the place, back when the temples and the palace were still covered with polychrome paints and a richly adorned crowd animated the esplanades. Enjoy this once-in-a-lifetime experience in Palenque!
Conquer the City of Uxmal
After breakfast, you will visit the village of Becal, where Don Alfredo opens his house to share the fabrication secrets of his Panama hats, the typical hat of Yucatan. Then, you will head to the archeological site of Uxmal. The site is peaceful and not widely visited by tourists. The rain god Chac-Moo is omnipresent in many murals and the architecture, as water is scarce in this region.
Afterwards, you will proceed to Merida where you will stay for the night.
Swim in a Cenote
Today, you will travel to a Mexican forest to swim in the cenotes. On the way, you will cross a typical Mayan market where the colors of fruits and vegetables are matched with those of the women’s traditional clothing. Upon arrival in the forest, you will explore two cenotes and take a refreshing swim.
After this transforming experience, your driver will take you back to Merida. Immerse yourself in a cultural and historical experience the city. You will find historical monuments and pleasant little squares that are a great setting for a drink, while you listen to a marimba band.
Explore a Mayan Wonder
After breakfast, you will head to Chichen Itza, the largest archeological site in Yucatan. Built by the Maya and then reorganized by the Toltecs, Chichen Itza symbolizes the unification of both religious cultures. The site is considered the most important religious center of the peninsula.
Then, you will drive to Valladolid, a small and authentic Mexican town. You can stroll around in this lovely town and appreciate the pretty pastel-colored houses while eating ice cream! Afterwards, you will travel to Tulum where you will spend the night.
A Relaxing Day in Tulum
You are free to enjoy the day at your own leisure. Relax and enjoy the beach and the sun! You can swim at the beach, read a book under the shade of a tree, or just take a stroll around the area. You can also visit the archeological site of Tulum, right on the Caribbean Sea shore.
Say Goodbye to Mexico
Sadly, your trip has ended, but your memories from here will live on! You will be transferred to Cancun Airport for your flight home. Mexico says goodbye, come back soon!
