After breakfast, depart from Tehran and drive into the highlands.



In Hamadan, at 1800m elevation, we seek the hair in the bald mane of the stone lion Shir-e Sangi, which Alexander the Macedonian is said to have commissioned.



You will see how advanced Persian culture was already in the 11th century at the mausoleum of the physician, astronomer, thinker, and polymath Ibn Sina, aka Avicenna, portrayed in the movie The Physician.

Admire the Gorgeous Rock Carvings at Bisotun

Embark on the ancient Silk Road and explore the Zagros Mountains on your way to Kermanshah.



But before leaving Hamadan, take a look inside the tomb of Esther and Mordechai, which is located there. 



Believed by some to house the remains of the biblical Queen Esther and her cousin Mordechai, it is the most important Jewish pilgrimage site in the country. 



Next stop - Bisotun, and the closer you get, the more you'll understand the meaning of the term "high culture" - at the Mountain of the Gods, a monumental rock relief in three languages tells of the victories of the Great King Darius.



Visit the amazing rock caves of Tagh-e Bostan in the outskirts of Kermanshah, and check into your hotel when you arrive in the city.

On your journey to the vast south-west region of Iran, enjoy a breathtaking panorama in mountainous Luristan.



Before reaching Ahvaz, you'll pass two major UNESCO World Heritage Sites.



First, encounter Susa, which encompasses a group of archaeological mounds rising on the eastern side of the Shavur River, as well as the Palace of Ardeshir on the opposite bank of the river.



The second UNESCO site is Tchogha Zanbil. Here you find the ruins of the holy city of the Kingdom of Elam, surrounded by three huge concentric walls. Founded c. 1250 B.C., the city remained unfinished after it was invaded by Ashurbanipal.

One of the capitals of the Achaemenid Empire, Persepolis was ordered by Darius the Great in 515 BC and is a high point among all the ancient ruins of your trip.



See more than the ceremonial palace and treasury when we take a look at the eastern staircases of Apadana. The elaborate panels show astonishing stories of 23 delegations bringing tribute to the Achaemenid king.
