Mykonos is one of the best Greek islands when it comes to variety. It has something for every traveler! From jeep tours to horseback rides, Mykonos is perfect for those with an adventurous spirit. It is also known for its many beaches, ideal for both water sports and sunbathing.
A short ferry ride from Mykonos, the island of Paros boasts spectacular mountain views. Its picturesque town of Parikia is known for its white marble architecture and traditional Cycladic houses.
Said to be the birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, Delos is one of the most important historical and archeological sites in Greece. Explore the island’s many noteworthy excavations—don’t forget to bring your camera!
Beaches and ancient ruins make the island of Naxos (where the young Zeus is said to have been raised) another popular stop.
Santorini, a worthy destination on its own, is a must for all Greek guided tours. Its exquisite beaches, famous wineries, and breathtaking landscapes make for a truly luxurious experience.
The small island of Patmos may be intriguing to those interested in biblical history—it is known as the location where the Apostle John wrote the book of Revelation in the New Testament.
Greece’s largest island, Crete is full of quiet beaches—perfect for swimming—and its fair share of good hiking trails and interesting archaeological sites.
The beautiful countryside and idyllic villages on the island of Corfu are difficult to beat. Here you can fit in some excellent shopping. You may also want to stop by the Achilleon Palace, a monument built to the Greek gods, which was featured in the casino scene of the James Bond film For Your Eyes Only.
One of the least commercialized islands, Paxos is a perfect destination for a little shopping or relaxation near the clear blue waters.
If you are wondering what to do in the Greek Islands, our local experts can give you many suggestions that will make your Greek Islands vacation packages unforgettable.
History and Culture
The Greek Islands are full of fascinating historical and cultural gems. You will want to add many of these sites to your day tours of the Greek Islands.
In Mykonos, be sure to visit Ano Mera, a traditional village with charming cafes. You won’t want to miss the town’s Monastery of Panagia Tourliani.
On the island of Paros, you can explore the ancient capital, Parikia, known for its white marble architecture.
The island of Delos has several important sites—the Temple of Apollo, the Sanctuary of Artemis, the theater, and the Avenue of Lions. You may also choose to spend an afternoon wandering through the Archaeological Museum of Delos.
The large island of Crete boasts its own fascinating archaeological sites, including the large Minoan Palace from an Aegean Bronze Age civilization. The Archaeological Museum of Heraklion is also worth visiting.
Greek Islands winery tours are also excellent elements to add to your vacation. Crete and Santorini especially have several great options for the wine enthusiast. Your destination expert can book excursions to these places, where you can taste different wines and learn more about the local vineyards.
Quiet Island life
Let our destination experts put together a package that includes a trip to a perfect beach on any of the Greek islands. Mykonos has several beautiful beaches. Agios Sefanos, Agios Ioannis, and
Fokos beach—the nicest beach in Mykonos, with an exclusive feel—all make for excellent day trips.
Paros also has wonderful family friendly beaches, if you are looking for a great spot for a casual but quality beach day.
Don’t forget to make time for some adventure! In Mykonos, enjoy a horseback ride through the island. Guided jeep tours also allow travelers to discover the places usually inaccessible to tourists.
Boat tours in the Greek islands allow many opportunities for scuba diving. The scuba diving is particular good off the island of Paros.
Many of the beaches are ideal for water sports. Kalafatis in Mykonos is a large beach, not typically crowded with tourists. It’s therefore perfect for jet skiing, windsurfing, and other water activities.
These are only some of the things the Greek Islands have to offer. Allow experts to put together private, luxury Greek islands tours—tailored specifically to your interests!
Most trips to the Greek Islands begin in the city of Athens, home to a large international airport. Many itineraries will take you directly to one of the islands. Tours from Athens to the Greek Islands can be arranged as part of longer trips to the country too, if you are interested in spending time on the mainland.
For the most picturesque experience, travel by boat to any of the islands. Ferries leave from the ports in Athens daily. Piraeus is the largest port, and Rafina and Lavrion are the two smaller ports. Your departure location will depend on your destination. For the most comfortable ferry experiences, choose larger ferries. While the travel time is longer, you will avoid the bumpiness characteristic of the high-speed ferries. However, if you prefer a shorter trip, the high-speed ferries are also safe and reliable.
In some instances, you may have the opportunity to fly into the islands. Mykonos, Crete, and Santorini have international airports, and some of the other islands have smaller airports for shorter in-country flights.
However you wish to travel, our destination experts will be sure to handle all the details of your Greek Islands private tours.
Though the country is a great destination all year long, you may want to avoid a trip to the Greek Islands during the slower months—November through March—as some of the hotels, restaurants, and businesses could be closed. December sees the most rain, while January is the coldest month of the year.
However, if you would prefer to experience the islands without as many tourists, you may choose to avoid the busiest season. The month of August is typically the most crowded and the most expensive, but high season is anywhere from June to September. If you do visit in the winter, Santorini and Crete are good destinations.
Though busy, the best time to visit the Greek Islands if you are hoping to enjoy the beaches is late May through early October. These are the warmer months and the most ideal times for swimming.
For milder weather, you can shoot for the months of May and October—these are great months if you are visiting primarily for sightseeing. However, you may see more rain once you get into October.
Regardless of when you plan your trip, our travel experts will be sure to plan appropriate activities that fit your interests and preferences.

This traveller just left a 5-star review.
Excellent! Everything went as planned throughout the whole process. He really listened to what we wanted and nailed it! Everything down to the last detail, including private transportation to and from airport, ferries, hotels and tours were prearranged and went off without a hitch. Even though he had given us a detailed itinerary in advance, it exceeded our expectations when seen in person. The hotels were all great. The drivers where always there on time. The tours were awesome. He even met us in person at our first hotel and checked in with us a couple times to make sure everything was going well. Antonis was great. We can't thank him enough for the stress-free wonderful package he put together for us!Read More Read More Less
