Sightseeing in Salvador City
Get an insight into the African roots of the city that resonates with the rhythms of the capoeira martial art, and the religious music and dance festivities of the candomblé ceremonies. On your Salvador tour, visit the Lighthouse of da Barra and also take a look at the Sao Joaquim market. Next stop is the Bonﬁm church that has a superb ex votos collection. Later, drop by the Ribeira area, a place that buzzes with activity day and night. After lunch, explore the Pelourinho historical area dotted with splendid colonial houses and baroque churches. Walk to the Capoeira fort for scenic views of the bay.
Other stops include the house museum of writer Jorge Amado, and the Sao Francisco church with its exquisite interiors. Head to the base of the Lacerda Elevator and shop for a while at Mercado Modelo. You also have an option for a half day visit of the candomblé followed by a night ceremony.
Explore the Outdoors in Lençóis
Did you know that Lençóis in Bahia was an erstwhile diamond mining town? Today, your tour will take you on a bus journey to this charming colonial town. Check into your lovely inn, and in the afternoon, set out for a walking tour of Lençóis. The town has the ambience of a 19th century place and you will see various craft and jewelry shops as well as structures with impressive architecture.
If you wish to, you can discover some fascinating places on a trek to the surrounding areas. Swim in the natural pools at Serrano, and explore the Cachoeirinha and Primavera waterfalls. The area has stretches of colored sand used for the fabrication of decorative glass bottles.
Visit Natural Attractions in Chapada Diamantina
Get set to explore the stunning landscape of the Chapada Diamantina region on a full day excursion. If you love to visit caves, the town of Iraquara has some very interesting ones. A popular attraction is the mineral-rich Torrinha cave. You can see some of the most beautiful formations of aragonite here that look like natural art. Visit the Well of the Devil known locally as the Poço do Diabo, a waterfall and pool, where you can also try the flying fox (cable). Work up a ravenous appetite that you can satisfy with lunch.
Afterwards, proceed to the viewpoint of Morro do Pai Inacio, a symbol of the Chapada Diamantina National Park. It is a short 30-minute climb that comes with an amazing reward at the top – the incredible panoramas of the surrounding mountain ranges. Return to Lençóis at the end of the day.
Trek to Fabulous Fumaça Waterfalls
Trekking time! Journey by road in a vehicle to the peaceful village of Caete Açu located at the bottom of the scenic Capão valley. From here, you will begin your five-hour trek that is steep in parts. All the effort is worth it as you see the lovely sights along the way and reach the plateau. From here, it is an easy walk on flat ground that will take you to the edge of the precipice of Fumaça, one of the highest falls in Brazil.
From the plateau, the fall drops into an enormous canyon covered with tropical vegetation. It is an amazing sight! On the way back towards Lençóis, you will stop at Riachinho waterfall for an energizing swim in its pool. Return to Lençóis at the end of the afternoon.
Take a Dip in the Blue Well
Depart from your hotel for another wonderful day in the outdoors. A drive along hills will take you to Poço Azul (blue well) located in a cave.
True to its name, this pool of water is a vivid blue that glimmers when rays of sunshine fall on it through the opening on the top. It looks very inviting and you can take a swim in it too. In the afternoon, hit the trail to the Mosquito waterfall. There is a trail of 2 km that ends by crossing a river with water coming up to your knees and a steep slope. Feel one with nature as you swim in the pools surrounded by cliffs and the forest. Afterwards, it’s back to Lençóis for some rest and relaxation.
Journey to Salvador
After all the fun in the Chapada Diamantina region, today you will return to Salvador. Travel by bus to the city where there will be pick up on arrival. Check-in at your hotel. Get some much-needed sleep for the night.
